  • It is a legal requirement of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 that no-one except vets treat animals, however, the Veterinary Exemptions Order 2015 does state that the Vet Surgeons Act does not prohibit the treatment of an animal with phyiotherapy if two conditions are met:

    1. The person carrying out the treatment is over 18 years old

    2. The person carrying out the treatment is doing so under the direction of a vet who has seen and prescribed the treatment for that animal

  • Most insurance companies will offer cover for physiotherapy, some have certain requirements. As a member of IRVAP most (if not all) insurers will cover my treatments. If you aren’t sure, call your insurer ahead of your appointment to check.

  • Get a vet referral and…

    Dogs - please try to bring you dog clean and dry (as much as possible), if they are too wet it may make some treatments difficult. They can have a walk but don’t have them tired out. They may need some treats throughout the treatment so either wait until after to feed them or bring some of their dinner with them (if they are on dry food).

    Horses - Where possible please have your horse dry and relatively clean. Access to electricity may be necessary for electrotherapies (including INDIBA).
