    Physiotherapy for healthy horses is agreat idea as your therapist will get to know the nuances of your horses body and may pick up on small niggles before they become big ones. These can then be treated and managed going forward to prevent injury.

    Electrophysical agents can be selected depending on the tissue type and problem being treated. These will enhance our treatments. We have available:

    Following illness or injury physiotherapy can help to improve your horses form and function. Working with your vet we can create programmes to rehab your horse from most conditions from kissing spines, osteoarthritis and tendon or ligament injuries.

Common Equine Conditions

  • Kissing Spines

    Kissing spines or overring dorsal spinous processes is when the top of a number of vertebrae get close or touch. This can create pain and new bone formation and in severe cases can lead to them fusing together. There are several treatment options which would be guided by your vet based on the severity.

  • Arthritis

    Osteoarthritis is common in horses and can be debilitating. It is commonly found in fetlocks, knees and hocks but is not exclusive to those joints. Treatment options will vary based on many factors.

    • Maintain or inmprove range of motion

    • Maintain or improve mobility

  • Tendon / Ligament Injury

    Tendon and ligament injuries can vary from a sprain to a rupture and anything in between. Treatment options are varied and there have been huge advances in veterinary medicine in this field.

    • Promote healing

    • Improve function

  • Musculoskeletal Dysfunction

    Musculoskeletal dysfunction covers many possibilities. Any muscle, joint or connective tissue that is not performing optimally. Areas of dysfunction can radiate through the horses body through fascial lines and may present elsewhere in the body as pain, restriction, hypertone etc. Physiotherapy can help to asses and rebalance your horse to promote better form and function.
